BIMCO, an international shipping body representing about 60% of the world's merchant shipping tonnage, announced October 19 it had approved a revised version of the Continent Grain Charter Party SYNACOMEX — the French Union for Grains and Seeds Trade — to reflect changes in the geopolitical landscape brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
The revised charter party, which is a maritime contract between a shipowner and a “charterer” for hire, now features BIMCO’s anti-corruption clause and an updated version of war risks as well as sanctions clauses.
“SYNACOMEX 2023 is the result of thorough consultations within the membership of SYNACOMEX and a detailed review by BIMCO to ensure that the form reflects the parties’ needs. It is an up-to-date and easy-to-use standard based on what we know works in the industry,” said Christelle Tailhardat, the secretary general of SYNACOMEX.
SYNACOMEX 2023 will soon be made available for use on SmartCon as well as the BIMCO website.
