GE Appliances has announced more than $150 million in new contracts for U.S.-based suppliers, as the company looks to shift its production out of China and into Kentucky.
The Associated Press reports that the new contracts range between $330,000 and $41 million, and will go to suppliers providing plastics, castings and aluminum for GE Appliance's washers and dryers. The company is also investing $490 million to retool its Appliance Park complex in Louisville, Kentucky, to handle production for its combo washer/dryers and front-load washers, which had previously been made in China. That new production line is scheduled to open sometime in early 2027.
“When we invest in U.S. manufacturing and our people, it drives growth far beyond our own walls,” GE Appliances VP Lee Lagomarcino said in a November 20 news release. "These new supplier contracts represent what ‘Built for America’ is all about – investing in U.S. manufacturing, creating more American jobs, and building opportunities that multiply.”
While the Louisville facility will handle production, suppliers will be spread across 10 states, including Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and California among others. Longer term, GE Appliances says it plans to invest more than $3 billion over the next five years in U.S. manufacturing for its air conditioning units, water heaters, refrigerators and washer/dryers.
