Compiere Inc., an open-source business solutions provider, has introduced what it says is the first comprehensive warehouse management system developed on an open-source platform. Integrated with Compiere ERP, Compiere Warehouse Management helps companies increase visibility into warehouse operations and reduce costs by automating inbound and outbound logistics within the warehouse. The solution provides full WMS functionality at a fraction of the cost of traditional, non-integrated, proprietary systems and can be adapted quickly and easily to changing user and business requirements, according to Compiere.
Specsavers Optical Group, a privately owned eyewear retailer with more than 1,000 stores in Europe and Australasia and nearly $2bn in annual sales, collaborated on the design of Compiere Warehouse Management. Specsavers uses the developer's ERP solution to manage accounting, purchasing, sales, materials management and distribution processes, consolidating store-level transactions at the corporate and country levels. Specsavers chose to work with Compiere to develop a WMS that would improve productivity throughout its global warehouse operations.
"We already had an excellent relationship with Compiere. When we were looking for a warehouse management system to fit our global requirements, they were the obvious choice," says Michel Khan, CIO with Specsavers Optical Group. "Compiere's open-source approach, their expertise and our practical experience in different markets with different distribution models across the globe made for a perfectly symbiotic collaboration. The result, Compiere Warehouse Management, will extend the flexibility and cost savings we have already gained from the Compiere ERP system into our warehouses across the globe."
