Warehouse Optimization, LLC has a new name. The company is now known as Transportation & Warehouse Optimization, a change that is intended to reflect its increased focus on transportation services. In particular, the company is using optimization techniques to reduce trucking costs. Tom Moore, a founding partner of Warehouse Optimization, noted that the firm's origins lie in traditional warehouse functions such as picking and loading, for large customers such as Procter & Gamble and Nestle. Later, it saw the need to move into vehicle loading building, in order to address transportation, the largest cost in the consumer-products supply chain. Warehouse Optimization products such as AutoPalletP3 and AutoLoaderT3 helped to reduce warehouse labor by 10 to 20 percent, cut picking and transit damage by more than 50 percent, and enable more product to go onto a truck, the firm claimed. But most companies would not permit the flexibility of adding product at the loading dock, thus wasting truck capacity. The creation of AutoVLB (Vehicle Load Building) gives users a planning tool to eliminate such waste and reduce overall transportation costs, Moore said.
