Unisource Worldwide Inc., a North American distributor of paper, packaging and facility supplies, has created a Technology Packaging Group. The new entity will design innovative packaging technologies that meet factory requirements while optimizing supply-chain costs, the company said. Its initial focus will be on marketing services to technical assembly and semiconductor manufacturers, as well as to the medical instrumentation, pharmaceutical and aerospace industries. Part of Unisorce's Packaging business unit, the Technology Packaging Group is staffed by former Silicon Valley engineers who specialized in packaging design for wafer fabrication, component assembly and global logistics optimization. The group, which will also draw on sourcing relationships established throughout Asia, will operate a design and testing lab in Phoenix, AZ.
