GAC Marine Logistics, a provider of logistics services for ship spares and marine parts, has opened a new warehouse in Rotterdam. The move was prompted by the need to meet growing demand for its services since an expansion into the Netherlands last year, the company said. The new warehouse covers more than 2,160 square meters and features more than 1,300 pallet positions. It is specially configured to meet the requirements of spares storage, including the need to accommodate a wide variety of sizes and weights. The facility also includes an open storage area along with offices. Chris Steibelt, managing director of GAC Marine, noted that Rotterdam is an important maritime hub, and a traditional point for the procurement and delivery of ship spares for vessel calls in Europe. The Rotterdam office acts as a central location for servicing Europe-based clients. The establishment of a physical warehouse was a "natural extension" of GAC Marine's specialized services for ship spares management, the company said. "Having our own modern facility for receiving, storing and delivery of spares gives us greater control in ensuring speedy response and seamless coordination in ship spares movement, to offer shipowners and suppliers customized solutions to their spares requirements," Steibelt said. At the site, GAC Marine is deploying GACWare, its proprietary online warehouse-management software. Over the past year, the company has also expanded operations in Hong Kong and Greece, adding to its existing presence in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Singapore; Mumbai, India and Sao Paolo, Brazil. GAC Marine is part of The GAC Group, an independent provider of shipping, logistics and marine services with worldwide headquarters in Dubai.
