Prism Inc. is now offering a Windows driver in its Jetpack 1000 thermal inkjet printer. The development makes the unit compatible with most barcode and label-generated programs, enabling companies to make a seamless transition to thermal inkjet technology from print-and-apply labeling systems, the vendor said. Inkjet printers offer significant cost advantages over labeling systems, when adding product ID data as alphanumeric text, or barcodes to transit package and individual product cartons, Prism claimed. Some users are reluctant to make the switch, however, because they have built up substantial libraries of labels using existing software packages. The Jetpack 1000 Windows driver enables customers to use their existing software where label layouts already reside. The unit delivers print resolution up to 600 dpi. It produces barcodes, logos and graphics on secondary packaging, such as corrugated shipping containers and trays. It is also well-suited for adding variable information on "knockdown" cartons prior to the individual product being inserted, according to Prism.
