The practice of "consumerization," when new technologies are introduced into the consumer market and then brought into the enterprise market is expected to continue. Expenditure is set to rise from $6bn to an estimated $17bn by 2012 as increasing numbers of enterprises look to expand their mobile workforces.
A new Datamonitor report that examines this trend notes that enterprises are fighting a losing battle against employees when it comes to mobile devices and they should consider supporting a limited selection of devices rather than banning them outright, as analysts contend that allowing a range of the most popular devices will improve employee satisfaction and encourage more of them to embrace mobile devices and improve their productivity when away from the office.
However, enterprises are understandably concerned about ensuring the security of their data.
