Rolls-Royce has landed a deal to supply 60 engines for a new fleet of Cathay Pacific airplanes.

In a news release August 7, the company said it plans to build Trent 7000 engines for 30 of Cathay Pacific's Airbus A330-900 planes. The deal will also include wing and maintenance work, with Rolls-Royce estimating that the engines will cut emissions by 14%. 

“All of us at Rolls-Royce are proud of the trust that Cathay Pacific is placing in us, and we look forward to supporting these new aircraft as they enter service,” Rolls-Royce civil aerospace chief customer officer Ewen McDonald said. 

The company is also investing £1 billion ($1.28 billion) in improvements to its Trent engines. The Trent 7000 was introduced in 2018, and is exclusively used in Airbus A330 aircraft. Rolls-Royce says that the engine is capable of operating on a blend that includes 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and "has been proven to be compatible with 100% SAF for the future."
