Ecological intelligence refers to an understanding of how human activity impacts natural ecosystems, and applying those insights so as to operate more sustainably--for instance, in redesigning supply chain operations. The three guiding principles of ecological intelligence are: 1) know your impacts, 2) favor improvements and 3) share what you know.
As growing numbers of consumers and supply management professionals apply these guiding rules, the demand for exerting environmental and health upgrades at many points in supply chains will only increase in the future. Two emerging factors are driving this trend: New market forces are accelerating the demand for upgrades in the ecological impacts of supply chains, while software innovations will make it easier for managers to find the upgrades consumers are demanding.
