Intermodal logistics service provider RoadLink USA says it has expanded its North American service platform by acquiring Chicago-based Unity Distribution Group and Ohio-based Reserve Transportation Services, both leaders in the intermodal trucking business. RoadLink, based in Chicago, is a portfolio company of Fenway Partners, a middle-market private equity firm that focuses on the transportation/logistics/distribution and branded consumer industries.
Unity operates primarily in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Reserve provides intermodal trucking services, with core volumes coming mostly from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and the Chicago metro areas. Together, the two companies will add approximately 400 independent contractor drivers to RoadLink's fleet, bringing its total truck count to more than 2,000.
"Through these acquisitions, RoadLink is building on our platform of strong operations in the Midwest, enabling us to continue to expand both our client base and the services we will be able to provide to our customers," says Chris Munro, RoadLink president and CEO. "In particular, because of Unity's and Reserve's extensive experience in the automotive and retail sectors, the acquisitions provide RoadLink with significant growth opportunities in these key sectors."
Most recently, RoadLink acquired World S.S. Inc., a North American freight handling company. In January, it took over Transus Intermodal LLC, which provides intermodal trucking services in the southeastern United States.
