Boeing Commercial Airplanes has issued a 20-year outlook for global air-cargo traffic, calling for a consolidated annual growth rate of 4.2 percent in volume (evaluated in metric tonnage), and saying this increase will result in significant demand for new and converted cargo jets needed to meet market demand by 2035.
Total intermodal traffic recorded another volume decline in the third quarter of 2016, according to the Intermodal Association of North America's latest quarterly Intermodal Market Trends and Statistics report. Contributing to this loss were intermodal trailer volumes which dropped 26.9 percent and international shipments which fell 6.7 percent. The domestic container business experienced gains of 3.3 percent which kept the overall volume loss to 4.6 percent.
The members of the new Ocean Alliance, CMA CGM, COSCO Container Lines, Evergreen Line and Orient Overseas Container Line, have announced their proposed "day one" trading network. The Alliance is the largest shipping alliance in the world, and the partners will operate 40 services on the East-West trades with around 100 ports of call and almost 500 port pairs.

Transportation software company XYpper, Inc. has launched an app- and web-based system that works similarly to Uber and other "sharing economy" apps - by directly connecting individuals who have a need with someone who can perform a service. In XYpper's case, the app connects freight brokers who have loads that need to be delivered with truckers who are either in their geographical area or on their way.
DHL has expanded its footprint in Southern California to accommodate a growing demand for its global shipping services, the logistics company announced. The new 66,730-square-foot service center in Santa Ana adds more than 27,000 square feet to the company's previous facility in Irvine, and reflects an increase in shipment volumes that DHL is handling.
UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service are all projecting major growth in holiday shipping volume during the peak season, driven by the continued boom in ecommerce activity. UPS, for example, is projecting 700 million deliveries between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, a 14 percent increase over 2015.
CaroTrans, a global non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) and ocean freight consolidator, has announced a new Northern Europe service connection with the addition of a direct Atlanta-Gothenburg LCL service. Citing a rising demand for logistics across the Southeast Asia region, Dachser USA Air & Sea Logistics has announced new offices in Vietnam, Hong Kong and India. Dachser USA, a U.S.-based subsidiary of Germany's Dachser SE, said the new locations have been set up in Hanoi, the New Territories of Hong Kong and Mumbai.
