A survey conducted this month indicates that online shopping on Black Friday is expanding beyond the U.S. and gaining popularity in other developed countries, says One Hour Translation, which provides translation services to global e-commerce companies.

A former South Korean teacher, Kim Jeong-min was at Narita Airport in Japan this month when he watched a television news report that Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone was banned on airplanes because it was prone to catching fire. Kim, 58, said he had felt humiliated, as if the non-Koreans in the airport lounge were looking at him.

More than two-thirds of consumers who have ever made a domestic online purchase have also made an online purchase from another country in the past year, according to an annual online shopping survey by Pitney Bowes, an e-commerce technology company. Singapore (89 percent), Australia (86 percent) and Hong Kong (85 percent) have the highest number of cross-border shoppers, while countries like Japan (34 percent) and the U.S. (45 percent) are still growing in cross-border confidence.

Container volumes at India's major ports increased by 6.32 percent over last year in the first half of this financial year through September, according to the Journal of Commerce. The 12 ports together handled 4.35 million TEUs in the first half, up from 4.09 million TEUs over the same time last year.
