The used truck market enjoyed a second consecutive month of improved volumes in March. The retail market was flat compared to February, while the wholesale market contracted. However, the auction market roared back to life in March, growing 126 percent, giving the overall market a 4-percent boost month over month.
For-hire trucking companies added 5,000 payroll jobs in January on a seasonally adjusted basis as the overall economy added 157,000 non-farm jobs, according to the latest estimates released Feb. 1 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The national unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 7.9 percent.
Results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the total cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers declined by 0.86 percent in November when compared with October results.
