Korean Air has launched a new cargo transport route between Chengdu and Singapore. The flight, which operates on Thursdays, is the second cargo service connecting Chengdu-Singapore-Seoul, which is also the ninth flight from Chengdu airport.
In other action, LAN Cargo plans to enhance alliances with Asian carriers to strengthen its cargo business. According to Cristian Ureta, LAN Cargo's general manager, the airline is committed to expanding its presence in the cargo market in Asia. He said, "We are doing everything possible to grow in Asia, though not yet with our own service. We don't see it in the short term, but we are watching the growth in cargo in the region. The list of potential alliances is long." He mentioned Cathay Pacific Airways, Korean Air and Air China as candidates for alliances. In addition, LAN Cargo is considering expanding its presence in Europe.
Finally, Southern Air Holdings will operate a 747F for Saudi Airlines Cargo. Fahad Hammand, Saudi CEO, said: "We welcome Southern Air to our freighter schedule. With their selection of wide-bodied freighter, such as the B747F and B777LR, Saudi Airlines Cargo Co. Ltd. will enhance its network cover."
