The solution tracks RFID tags attached to consumer products placed on shelves or other retail fixtures, using RFID reader hardware. The system consists of interrogators, EPC Gen 2 passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) tags and software, residing on a hosted server accessible on a software-as-a-service (SAAS) basis.
The battery company provides its products to auto parts stores, repair shops and other merchant locations. It sends drivers to replenish products as they are sold, and chose to trial the solution in order to determine whether attaching RFID tags to its batteries, as well as installing an RFID reader module and antennas in storage or display racks at dealership sites, would provide greater visibility into when products were being sold at each location.
