Software vendor Syspro has created Syspro Office Integration (SOI), an application that allows users to access information directly from the Syspro database when working within a Microsoft Office product such as Word or Excel. The information can also be inserted into a current document, either as a simple text or as a table, Syspro said. Integration with Outlook permits the automatic posting of emails as activities against contacts. In the alternative, the user can manually select emails to be integrated. SOI lets users define the Syspro information that is displayed within the Office application. Information access extends beyond contact details to include invoices and inventory. Administrators can prevent users from accessing sensitive data by applying "roles" to selected operators. The use of Web services to communicate between Office and the Syspro application server means that users can access the data remotely and in a secure manner. Because SOI is a standalone module, it can be used to provide external trading partners with real-time access to relevant information, the vendor said.
