The National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. (NMFTA) has released ClassIT 2.0, the latest edition of the group's online version of the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) pricing tool. The service evaluates and classifies all of the commodities shipped and handled by motor freight carriers moving in interstate, intrastate and foreign commerce. The NMFC provides carriers and shippers with a standard by which the transportability of all commodities is measured. In the process, it simplifies the competitive evaluation of thousands of products traveling over the road. It is amended by periodic updates and published annually in book form. ClassIT 2.0, the electronic version of NMFC, offers online access to the data. The latest version features advanced search capabilities, allowing users to look up a commodity's classification, rules and packaging requirements. Searches in context produce all search results with related items, so that a user can make a single query and scroll down the possible matches to find the exact item. A density calculator helps to determine the density of a package, pallet or complete shipment in seconds, and includes a multi-purpose conversion calculator. NMFTA specialists are available to answer classification questions, the group said.
