The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of accessorial charges assessed by carriers, increased by 1.1  percent when compared to January 2014.

Average fuel surcharges assessed by carriers increased this month. Fuel was 21.78  percent of base rates in February versus 20.86  percent in January.

"Since August of 2013 total freight costs have risen for the seventh straight month. Fuel is also on the rise," said Doug Payne, president and COO of Nulogx, a provider of transportation management solutions and services, and the sponsor of the CGFI. "Fuel has now risen to the March/April levels of 2013."
