Tagsys, a maker of products utilizing radio frequency identification (RFID), has created a new "intelligent infrastructure" for RFID networks. The company has developed what it claims is the industry's first self-diagnostic and self-correcting long-range high-frequency RFID reader. The Medio L400 self-monitors nine different functions, including temperature and digital output load. When coupled with e-connectware, Tagsys's set of management and administrative tools, the device allows users remotely to monitor, manage and modify 50 parameters in real time. The Medio L400 has been designed to operate in noisy environments, such as manufacturing plants and distribution facilities, while ensuring high levels of data integrity for item-level tracking and tracing, inventory management and security applications. The unit conserves network bandwidth by filtering tag data to remove redundancies before sending the data to the host. Customers purchasing the Medio L400 can easily migrate to the new HF V2 specification for RFID, developed by EPCglobal with input from Tagsys, with a free firmware upgrade. The Medio L400 will hit the market on Nov. 30, with the HF V2 compatible firmware upgrade available in 2008.
