Datalogic Scanning Inc. has released the PowerScan 8000 Series of rugged handheld readers. The units were designed to withstand the toughest environmental conditions, the company said. They come with a choice of corded or cordless models; standard or auto range laser, with a range from a few centimeters to over 10 meters; and 2D mega-pixel sensor for omni directional reading of 1D, stacked and 2D barcodes. The vendor's 3GL (Three Green Lights) technology incorporates "GreenSpot" as well as "Double Good-Read LED" technologies. Datalogic's STAR cordless system offers scalable systems, from basic point-to-point applications to more complex networks and seamless roaming projects. As an input and output device, the bi-directional communication protocol of the PowerScan 8000 reader combines with an optional display and three-pushbutton keypad, which allows the operator both to receive information and actively interact with the host. Datalogic specializes in fixed-position, point-of-sale scanners for retail, as well as handheld models.
