At a time when warehouses are under intense pressure to process and ship product to demanding customers, how can we keep warehouse workers safe?
According to the Center for Investigative Reporting, injury rates at Amazon.com warehouses have been far in excess of the industry average. In 2018 and 2019, certain Amazon facilities racked up a record of 20 or more injuries per 100 workers. The problem becomes even more acute as distribution centers ramp up to meet peak seasonal demand. So what’s to be done? On this episode, we explore the problem with the help of Joe Schloesser, senior director with ISN, a contractor management platform. He explains which kinds of injuries are most prevalent, where and why they occur, and what must be done to prevent them. We discuss labor productivity standards, the adequacy of current training programs and the impact of automation. How can we achieve a “safety-first mindset” in the warehouse? Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
