Con-way Inc. has created Con-way Multimodal, offering expanded freight-brokerage and third-party logistics capabilities. The new venture succeeds the company's previous brokerage operation, Con-way Truckload Services. With headquarters in Portland, Ore., it will operate as a division of Menlo Worldwide Logistics, one of Con-way's three main business units. Con-way Multimodal will arrange third-party carrier services for over-the-road, intermodal, flatbed, heavy haul and specialized transportation for truckload freight segments. Its reach will extend throughout the U.S. and into Canada and Mexico. The operation maintains relationships with small and large carriers across the U.S., while drawing on the technology, customer relationships and purchasing power of the Con-way organization, the company said. It expects the relaunching of the truckload brokerage company to accelerate growth in that segment. Leading Con-way Multimodal as president is Tyler S. Ellison, a 12-year veteran of the transportation and logistics industry.
