Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, said on August 17 that Danish shipping company A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S would invest $2 billion in Pakistan's port and transport infrastructure over the next two years.

According to The Express Tribune, the minister said in an interview with PTV News, that the investment — the result of efforts made by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) — would contribute to the development of infrastructure, and would play a vital role in boosting Pakistan's economy.

He is scheduled to visit Denmark this month to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Maersk and Karachi Port Trust, formalizing investment plans.
