A 170-year-old manufacturer is on the cutting edge of AI.
Hexion is a manufacturer of specialty chemicals and materials for building and construction, in particular adhesives and resins for engineered wood products. But the venerable company, with its decades-old infrastructure, is far from being bound by traditional practices. On this episode, we speak with chief procurement officer Gaël De Martelaere about how Hexion is deploying artificial intelligence to transform multiple functions and processes throughout the organization, affecting supply chain planning, plant operations, product quality and sourcing strategies. He details the advantages that AI has brought in just a few short years, including improvement yields, less scrap, higher productivity and savings in raw materials. It’s all part of an ambitious effort to “reinvent” the company, De Martelaere says. He also offers his view on the limits of AI. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
