Japanese brewing company Asahi was hit by a cyberattack on its shipping and customer service operations, marking the latest in a string of recent incidents during which hackers have targeted large firms.
According to BBC News, Asahi experienced a system failure the morning of September 29, and subsequently suspended all order and shipment operations in Japan. The company confirmed that no personal information or data was leaked in the hack, and that it is "actively investigating" the cause of the incident.
Asahi is Japan's largest brewer, and owns a handful of other global beer brands, including Peroni, Pilsner Urquell, Grolsch and Fullers. In a 2024 report, the company highlighted a potential cyberattack among the most prominent risks it faces in the near future, and warned that should such an attack occur, it could interrupt Asahi's business and cash flow, and damage its brand.
U.K. car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover was hit by a separate cyberattack on August 31, forcing it to halt work at three of its U.K. factories. Both dairy food giant Arla Foods and German brewer Oettinger were hit with cyber-attacks in May as well, while Russian distiller Novabev Group was targeted two months later.
