E-commerce is responsible for an explosion in the number of alternative parcel delivery networks.
It wasn’t that long ago that the parcel-delivery market was dominated by a handful of large integrated carriers — UPS, FedEx and just a few others. That isn’t the case anymore. Today, parcel shippers can draw from a huge selection of alternative delivery networks. Their appearance on the scene is a direct result of the rise in e-commerce, according to Derreck Travers, senior vice president of e-commerce and business development with DeliverDirect. On this episode, he traces the emergence of these scrappy new players, and discusses whether they’re able to compete on both price and service with the integrated giants. It’s all about speed, visibility, flexibility and scalability. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
