What are companies getting wrong about psychological safety in the workplace?
First of all, understanding what the term means. There’s no clear consensus on the matter, and psychological safety is often wrongly conflated with mental health, says James Junkin, strategic advisory board chair at Veriforce, a software provider specializing in supply chain risk management. Junkin discusses the findings of a recent Veriforce study, which finds that while organizations profess to prioritize psychological safety — the feeling among workers that it's safe to speak up when they spot hazardous situations — relatively few have a written policy on the subject, let along engage in formal training and offer adequate leadership support. Junkin talks about how businesses can close the gap between safety awareness and implementation, an issue that impacts “the organizational culture of the entire company.” Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
