Southeastern Freight Lines, a provider of regional less-than-truckload transportation, is now offering all customers access to real-time shipment-status data. Such reports previously were available only to high-volume customers via electronic data interchange (EDI). Customers sign up to receive the reports through Southeastern's "My SEFL" website. The enhancements include e-mail notification and an option for text-message notification for PDAs or mobile phones. Customers can select all shipments from their My SEFL accounts, or specify shipments for status updates. The capability can aid in the tracking of key shipments from company sites, as well as by mobile workers who are out of the office. Southeastern has also added the capability for customers to modify shipping information through its online bill of lading (BOL) system. Existing documents can be modified as often as necessary, up to the time a shipment is tendered to Southeastern. The feature gives customers the flexibility to correct mistakes, add freight to an existing BOL, change the shipment date, hold a shipment or make other modifications. Customers can also enter BOLs with advanced dates, so they can work on tomorrow's shipments today, Southeastern said.
