When tariffs are slapped on supply chains, who pays the tab?
The general wisdom about tariffs is that the end consumer ultimately pays for them, in the form of a higher price tag. That’s often the case, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Supply chains consist of multiple tiers, from raw materials to finished products and distribution, and each stage that’s affected must make a decision on whether to pass along the extra cost, or absorb at least part of it. Often the decision is tied to the particular partner’s negotiating clout. In all cases, it’s a complex equation. On this episode, we learn how tariffs flow through industrial supply chains.
Our guide is Johannes Groll, chief procurement officer with Tacto, a procurement intelligence platform for manufacturing. He also discusses the impact of artificial intelligence on the procurement function, and how the technology is likely to change the role of the human procurement professional in the years ahead. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
