Lockheed Martin is planning to invest $300 million to expand its advanced munitions manufacturing capacity in the United States.
According to an October 14 release, the money will go toward Lockheed's Grand Prairie production facility in Texas, adding 100,000 square feet of new manufacturing space and 85,000 square feet of office space. The expansion will create additional capacity for automation, digital manufacturing and high-precision machining for missile components, the company says.
"By combining advanced technology with the expertise of our American workforce, we're transforming manufacturing to deliver critical munitions at speed and scale," said Lockheed Martin CEO Jim Taiclet.
As part of the expansion, manufacturing startup Hadrian will work with Lockheed to install 24 automated machines to produce missile components at the Grand Prairie facility, with production scheduled to start in early 2027. Hadrian signed a seven-year agreement with Lockheed in 2025 to provide the defense contractor with automated manufacturing technology, software and workforce training in order to help boost missile component production.
Lockheed's Grand Prairie facility recently installed 30 new machines capable of producing thousands of critical components a week. The company also has a goal to add nearly 100 new advanced machines at Grand Prairie by the end of 2026.
