Walmart says that it's planning to invest $300 million in a new 1.2 million–square-foot fulfillment center in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, for a project expected to create more than 300 jobs.
The facility will handle large e-commerce orders such as patio furniture and lawnmowers for next-day delivery. In a September 30 release, North Carolina Governor Josh Stein called the decision a sign of the state's strong business climate, workforce programs and transportation network.
“As our eCommerce business continues to grow, this new fulfillment center will play a critical role in helping us serve customers faster,” Walmart senior VP Karisa Sprague added. “We’re excited to join the Kings Mountain community and proud to create long-term career opportunities where associates can grow and build their future with Walmart.”
The project will be supported in part by a job development grant from the state. Over 12 years, the initiative is projected to grow the state economy by nearly $791 million, with Walmart eligible for up to $3.67 million in reimbursements tied to job creation and investment targets. State officials estimate the return on investment at 174%, meaning each public dollar spent will generate $2.74 in new revenue.
Walmart currently operates more than 214 stores and Sam’s Clubs, along with seven supply chain facilities in North Carolina, employing over 62,000 associates. The company also spent more than $9 billion with North Carolina suppliers in fiscal 2025, supporting more than 88,000 jobs.
