Spot truckload rates declined across all three equipment types during the week ending April 16, according to DAT Solutions, which operates the DAT network of load boards.

Following an established seasonal pattern, spot market freight volume declined 15 percent in November, month over month, largely due to a drop in demand for flatbed trucks. Freight volume has declined in November in every year except 2012, according to the DAT North American Freight Index, which has recorded monthly spot market freight levels since 1997.

DAT Solutions has launched an online analytics service for transportation and logistics professionals to access truck and load data on the 149 key market areas in North America with the highest concentrations of inbound and outbound freight. Same-month volume was up 32 percent compared to 2013, when freight volume was unusually robust. Spot market volume typically peaks in June; this year's seasonal contraction was 11 percent in July compared to the 10-year average decline of 19 percent.
