The liner services group of Crowley Maritime Corp. is adding 500 new containers to its equipment fleet, to serve customers in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and throughout Central America. The addition brings the company's total fleet to more than 46,000 units. The latest acquisition represents growth of nearly 4 percent in Crowley's fleet of 45-foot-long, 102-inch-wide containers, and nearly 5 percent of its 40-foot high-cube container fleet. Included in the acquisition are 500 new 45-footers, half of them 102 inches wide and half 96 inches wide. Some of the 40-footers are already in service, while the 45-foot dry boxes are slated for construction by the end of April. Upon receipt, they will be dispersed throughout Crowley's liner services areas based on customer needs, the company said.
