The logistics unit of Crowley Maritime Corp. has begun providing services in Guatemala with its own staff, instead of relying on MAPA S.A., the company's third-party agent in the country. The move gives customers a single point of contact for accessing Crowley services, including freight forwarding, customs brokerage, air cargo transport, warehousing, ocean freight transportation and domestic trucking, for Guatemala and throughout most of Central America. Crowley's employees have extensive experience in the local market, the company said. The Crowley operation is located in the Incoinsa Free Zone. Marvin De Paz will continue to serve as business manager, with Byron Ardon acting as manager of freight services. Victor Lainfiesta and Carmen Trujillo will handle the non-vessel operating common carrier operation. Crowley Maritime offers liner, logistics, petroleum, marine and technical services throughout Latin America. In another company development, Crowley's liner services group has acquired more than 1,500 new containers and related cargo-handling units. The purchase included 50 forty-five-foot, inch-wide containers with recycled, composite-material floors. Such materials are more environmentally friendly than traditional wood floors, Crowley said. The order also included 45-foot chassis, 40-foot high-cubes, 20-footer standard refrigerated containers, 45-foot flatbed trailers and generator sets.
