Descartes Systems Group has expanded its service center in Pittsburgh, Penn. to support the company's customs filing and compliance services. Descartes helps ground carriers and customs brokers to submit electronic filings required for the movement of cargo into the United States by truck. As of May, 2007, all trucks entering the U.S. are required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to electronically file manifests prior to arrival at the border. The manifest must include details of the cargo, shipper and recipient. Descartes' services for customs filing and compliance for the e-Manifest initiative include ACE-4-Trucks, a Web-based application which allows truckers electronically to submit waybill and trip information directly to CBP; ACE Preparer, for carriers that don't want to manage ACE compliance software and submissions directly; ACE Premier, for the routing of faxed documents to the proper customs broker for processing; and ACE Connect, for submitting data via industry-standard EDI or in-house XML formats. Descartes also offers an Affinity Program for users to resell the ACE-4-Trucks Service, and brand it as their own value-added offering.
