MeriTalk surveyed state and local IT professionals to find:

"¢ Forty-four percent of state and local agencies are not discussing big data; and 39 percent are just beginning to learn about this technology

"¢ Eighty-seven percent of respondents say their stored data has grown in the last two years; with one in three reporting their data has grown too large to analyze

"¢ Only 2 percent of state and local agencies have a complete big data strategy

"¢ Seventy-nine percent of state and local agencies estimate it will be at least three years before they are able to take full advantage of big data
