Datalogic Scanning Inc. has made generally available the QuickScan Mobile retail point-of-sale handheld reader. The multi-purpose device can be used for inventory, price-checking and shelf-replenishment, the vendor said. It features Datalogic's cordless STAR-System radio technology for narrow-band radios, as well as Bluetooth wireless technology. With radio range of up to 40 feet, the reader eliminates the restraints of cabled devices while improving efficiency and workplace safety, Datalogic claimed. It was designed for small to medium-sized retail stores, where it is vital to have one device capable of performing multiple tasks. Datalogic's line of industrial and retail handheld readers also include the Dragon, PowerScan, and Gryphon brands. Sales of cordless handheld scanners are projected to outpace those of corded scanners over the next few years, Datalogic said.
