Boeing is planning to increase production of its 737 narrowbody jets to a record-setting 57 aircraft a month by July 2025, according to sources quoted by Reuters. The new goal would allow the plane maker to hit an unmet target that was set several years ago.

The company did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

Under the schedule revised in September, Boeing hopes to produce 42 jets each month by December 2023, 47.2 aircraft by June 2024 and 52.5 planes by December 2024. Boeing aims to hit a steady rate of 57.7 aircraft produced each month by July 2025.

Previously, Boeing’s formal production target for 737 narrowbody jets was set at 50 aircraft a month for the 2025-2026 time-frame. However, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun suggested during a July earnings call that a rate increase to 60 jets each month could be on the table as the company continues to secure new orders.

"I would love to get to 60 deliveries, and the market is there for it. There's no doubt about it," Calhoun said.
