A new venture to manage and sell domestic surplus transportation capacity has debuted under the name Enviromodal. Founded by EIS Logistics and Integrated Rail Group, the company is offering capacity to clients through real-time, Web-based technology. Using either its own negotiated rate contracts or those of the shipper, it can provide space on intermodal, rail and marine carriers. The program is the result of a collaboration between Enviromodal and various providers of transportation and information technology. It involves the management of rail and truck assets, in an effort to boost utilization and reduce empty miles. Enviromodal is partnering with REZ-1 to provide customized software and business processes in support of the venture. Clients will be able to reserve equipment on a round-the-clock basis, with access to real-time equipment availability, shipment management and billing information. In addition, they can submit questions about charges in real time. Enviromodal is currently offering capacity between Jacksonville, Fla. and Secaucus, N.J. Other lanes will be opened during the fourth quarter of 2008.
