Aron Bohlig, managing partner with ComCap Holdings LLC, updates us on four major topics in logistics technology investment: artificial intelligence, visibility, autonomous warehouse vehicles, and the prospect for market consolidation.

In the world of AI, “many companies are pursuing it, but it’s at a very nascent stage,” Bohlig says. Generative AI, especially, has yet to yield proven use cases, so he’s advising investors “to hold off for the next generation of AI solutions.”

In many cases, he adds, AI “service offerings are looking for a problem to solve.” There aren’t many packaged solutions on the market at this point, and he believes it will be 18-24 months before the industry sees “standardized, industrial-scale solutions in supply chain.”

Supply chain visibility technology is significantly more advanced. “We’re very bullish on that space,” Bohlig says, calling it “a great bet” for 2025. “We will see lots of continued investment, and the ROI is very strong.”

Yet another area of promise is autonomous vehicles in the warehouse. For now, Bohlig expects to see many strong products coming to market, driven in part by the need for drones in the defense sector. Again, the ROI is powerful, “and we’re very quickly coming to an industrial level of quality and scale.”

A third trend identified by Bohlig is consolidation in the supply chain tech market. Existing large vendors are keeping close tabs on newcomers, he says, with an eye toward eventually acquiring them. Private equity is also interested. This year will be one of revenue growth, he predicts, and 2026 will see “rapid consolidation” of many of the players currently crowding the marketplace.

The result will move logistics technology from a collection of point solutions to broader offerings feature suites of applications. With that will come “a shakeout of the winners and losers,” Bohlig says.
