Ahead of the scheduled 2026 review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada free-trade agreement (USMCA), the U.S. National Retail Federation (NRF), the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) and the Mexican retail association ANTAD said they stand united in their support for the North American commercial partnership.
In a press release, the NRF said that, during a visit to Washington April 13, the RCC met with the NRF to discuss, among other things, the importance of preserving the agreement.
“Our primary message to our respective governments is clear: Above all else, do no harm,” said the joint statement from Kim Furlong, president and CEO of RCC; Matthew Shay, president and CEO of NRF; and Diego Cosio Barto, executive president and CEO of ANTAD, the National Association of Selfservice and Department store chains in Mexico.
“The integrated nature of our retail supply chains has enriched the lives of citizens in Canada, the United States and Mexico alike. We view the upcoming milestone as a formal review of the agreement and an opportunity to fine-tune a successful framework.”

The associations urged the Trump administration to maintain a tripartite deal. “The trilateral nature of this deal is what provides the stability and scale necessary for North American businesses to compete globally,” they argued. They also called for the continuation of cross-border movement and tariff-free trade. “Predictability in trade costs is the backbone of retail affordability,” said the joint statement.
