GreenWorld, a new company offering carbon-offset software on the internet, has launched a tool known as ShopGreen. The free application lets shoppers of U.S.-based online retailers add an investment equal to one percent of their orders in carbon offsets, reducing the carbon footprint of each purchase. ShopGreen seamlessly integrates with an online retailer's e-commerce store, the vendor said. It allows companies and their customers to fund specific carbon-offset projects, providing real-time tracking and channeling nearly all of the buyer's investment directly to such projects. Retailers can customize their carbon-offset projects by selecting from a diverse domestic and international portfolio. They can integrate the ShopGreen module within any shopping cart, and provide customers with tracking ID numbers that can be used to view records of their carbon-offset investments. The tool allows for access to statistics that show the cumulative ShopGreen impact. With a single click, it automatically displays customized program information tailored to the merchant's settings. Users can view and download real-time transaction costs, allowing for easy tracking and reporting, GreenWorld said.
