When Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways begins nonstop passenger flights to Sydney in March, it will be a boon for cargo customers as well. The airline promises three flights a week, beginning March 26, each capable of carrying 12 tons of cargo. Daily flights are expected by the end of June, Etihad says.
Etihad's cargo division actually started services to Australia last July, by offering interline services via Etihad's network in the Far East.
"The non-stop Sydney service offers our Australian cargo customers a direct link to the Middle East, with swift connections through our hub at Abu Dhabi International to 47 destinations worldwide," says Rupert Batstone, acting executive vice president of cargo.
