Logistics Management Solutions (LMS), a non-asset-based third-party logistics provider, has acquired McCann's Piggyback Consolidation Inc., an intermodal marketing company headquartered in Fenton, Mo. The deal adds intermodal services to LMS's menu of offerings, while creating a new subsidiary, Freight Management Solutions, also to be based in Fenton. FMS will specialize in intermodal and freight brokerage activities, while LMS will focus on supply-chain management services. LMS said it acquired McCann's to enable its clients to benefit from energy- and cost-efficient rail transportation throughout North America. FMS will have access to all Class 1 railroads, the company said. LMS operates a proprietary transportation-management system known as TOTAL. The Web-native TMS application manages freight movements and performs online tracking and tracing. McCann's was founded in 1980 by rail industry veterans Bill and Donna McCann.
