DB Schenker Logistics has launched a new business unit in Kaluga, Russia, under the auspices of ZAO Schenker, the company's Russian country organization. Located in western Russia, Kaluga is a fast-growing economic region, particularly for the automotive sector, Schenker said. The provider decided to establish a Kaluga branch of operations following collaboration with market players in the Russian automotive sector as well as other industries, according to Karl Nutzinger, a member of Schenker AG's management board. The new branch will provide a wide range of international and domestic transportation services, including rail forwarding, air and ocean freight, contract logistics, supply-chain management, customs clearance and special projects. DB Schenker Rail Automotive is responsible for the implementation of the logistics system at the Volkswagen/Skoda plant in Kaluga. Since 2008, the company has coordinated the services of six freight railways, various operators and other subcontractors between Central Europe and VW's location in Russia. ZAO Schenker was established in 1992; its network today covers 21 cities across Russia.
