"It will also support the industrial, trade and tourism activities that will be set up as per the preset plans and programmes of the Special Economic Zone Authority," said Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, minister of transport and communications, who presided over the launching of the port's operations.

The opening of the 300-metre-long quay will boost commercial operations and will be on the international marine map, Futaisi added.

The minister said the launch would give momentum to the port and achieves the Sultanate's aims towards developing marine transport and logistics services.

He pointed out that the project would support development programmes for the area, attract mega investments and promote trade and industry in the A'Duqm area.

"Soft operations include receiving a number of containers loaded with equipment and tools that are used in the A'Duqm port area," he added.

An agreement has also been signed for the production of bitumen, which is used in the construction of marine quays and roads. The second agreement is related to providing the ready-made concrete for the construction works related to the port.
