The carrier has ordered five of the freighters from Boeing, at a list price of $270m per plane. According to Lufthansa Cargo chief executive officer Karl Ulrich Garnadt, "The Boeing 777F is not only the most powerful, efficient and ecological freighter in the world, but also a highly visible symbol of our "˜Lufthansa Cargo 2020' future program." He called the addition of the twin-engine freighter an important milestone "on our path to shaping a company for the next generation." In addition to modernizing its freighter fleet, Lufthansa is investing €100m in new information-technology systems. The airline is also building a new logistics center in Frankfurt, Germany.
