Who is this strange individual called a Chief Supply Chain Officer? And what does it take to become one?
Around 15 years ago or so, the title “Chief Supply Chain Officer” started popping up in the executive suites of global businesses. It was more than some trendy rebranding suggested by a pricey management consultant. To call someone a CSCO was to acknowledge the vital role that supply chains play today in meeting organizational goals of efficiency, quality, customer service and, ultimately, profitability. And with the recent run of disasters, both natural and otherwise, that have disrupted the flow of product around the world, the CSCO has become an even more important figure. On this episode, we discuss the evolution of the CSCO, along with the talents, education and experience that this individual must possess, with the help of Radu Palamariu, managing director for Asia Pacific and Europe with executive search firm Alcott Global. We’ll also discuss whether expertise in supply chain management is becoming a path to the office of the CEO. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
Show notes:
Palamariu’s book (with Knut Alicke, partner with McKinsey & Company), From Source to Sold: Stories of Leadership in Supply Chain.
