Wisconsin has been named the best state for truck drivers, with the state boasting the highest rate of online job postings for trucking jobs, and the ninth highest rate of employment.
In an analysis released on August 25, Lance Surety Bonds, which provides people with surety bonds that are required by state or cities, ranked states based on various factors. These included employment rates for truckers per 1,000 jobs, average annual salary, fatalities involving large trucks, online job postings for every 100,000 residents, and search volumes for trucking jobs per 100,000 residents. Wisconsin took the top spot based on those factors, with Georgia, Iowa, Indiana and South Carolina rounding out the top five.
Wisconsin also topped the list for online postings for trucking roles at 29.3 per every 100,000 people, followed by South Carolina at 19.3, and Iowa at 24. New Jersey has the highest average annual salary for truckers at $67,630, with Washington trailing close behind at $67,060, and Alaska at $66,890. Mississippi had the highest interest in trucking jobs with 168.9 online searches per 100,000 residents, while Arkansas had the highest employment rate for truckers at 25.1 for every 1,000 jobs.
The bottom five states for truckers in the report were Massachusetts, Idaho, Colorado, Hawaii and New Mexico. Truck drivers were paid the least on average in West Virginia ($51,920), New Mexico ($51,530) and Louisiana ($51,310), while Rhode Island (6.6 jobs per 1,000 residents), Hawaii (6.59) and New York (6.4) had the lowest employment rates. The states with the least interest in trucking jobs were Massachusetts (35.3 online searches per 100,000 residents), New Hampshire (29.2) and Hawaii (23).
